Te Whau Pathway, Stage 1, Auckland

Stage 1 of the Te Whau Pathway has opened to the public, and it’s great to see this first stage completed as it is a stunning achievement.

Landscape Architects LandLab has created a visually stunning and alluring pathway following the path of the Te Whau river, and when complete will connect the Watemata and Manukau harbours.

Stage 1 is complete starting from SH16, creating a shared pathway experience for walkers and cyclists alike.

Switch Lighting Design & Consultancy worked closely with LandLab to design and deliver a fully integrated handrail lighting solution using Planet Lighting‘s LED Puck SNAP Uni model, optimizing the design for compliance, spacings and cost efficiency.

The discrete nature of the Planet LED Puck SNAP Uni, integrated into the underside of the handrail to provide a hidden from view solution for pedestrians and cyclists alike, ensures lighting is delivered optimally without impact upon the user’s enjoyment of the space.

Optical backspill control also limits unwanted light pollution into the Te Whau river, helping minimise impact on birdlife and other fauna.

JRLite’s Ace 1220 flexible LED is vertically integrated amongst handrail uprights in viewing pods helping identify these gathering and viewing locations while mirroring the verticality of the ballustrade design.
